Week 9 D1 Football Power Rankings

10/30/2018

Our Week 9 D1 Power Rankings are here. As you can see not much of a big change as only Alabama A&M takes over that #10 spot. Southern is proving that their slow start was just a gimmick. They are possibly the hottest team in the SWAC right now. If things continue to go the way it is going for the Jaguars the Bayou Classic is really going to be another "classic". The winner of the SWAC West between Southern and Grambling could determine the winner of the SWAC West as Southern holds a one game over Grambling St in the title race. Bethune-Cookman played Nebraska in what our friends over at HBCU Gameday like to call it a #CutTheCheck game. Couple weeks left in the season and we could possibly see a FAMU vs Southern Celebration Bowl that would really make the HBCU Football culture happy.

Week 9 Player of the week

Our Week 9 Player of The Week goes out to NAIA Langston University QB Jaylen Lowe. Lowe had a great game against Texas College throwing for 440 yards and 7 touchdowns. Lowe is leading a Langston Lions team that is 7-1 and is ranked #1 in our D2/NAIA polls as well #11 in national rankings. Can the Lions make noise for the rest of the season? With Lowe leading it will be interesting to see for Langston Lions fans as well as HBCU football fans.

Ranking the 20 best uniforms in hbcu football

10/29/2018

By: Bradford Brooks
In this list we excluded Tennessee State and Hampton University and only ranked our 20 best uniforms for the HBCU teams that belong to the MEAC, SWAC, SIAC, and the CIAA sorry Tiger and Pirate fans.

20.) Mississippi Valley State kick things off as they come in at number 20 of our list. The Delta Devils sport green and white threads that still give off that classic look to days back with the Willie Totten and Jerry Rice connection.
Picture
19.) The Vikings of Elizabeth City State are the number 19th ranked uniforms. Their all blue under armor uniforms gives this team a formidable look.
Picture
18.) University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, this team rocks uniforms made by Adidas and has a very dope two tone helmet concept.
Picture
17.) Virginia State University Trojans another team with the two tone color helmet concept, the Trojans always take the field looking clean as they pack a lot of versatility with their orange and blue color scheme.
Picture
16.) The Lions of Lincoln University have one of the best looks in the CIAA conference with their latest uniform deal with Under Armor, keeps the players fresh while they are out on the gridiron.
Picture
15.) Clark Atlanta University multi-color has been a trend on this list, but the Panthers definitely turn heads when they come out in these impressive uniforms.
Picture
14.) Miles College purple and gold is a color combination that many say that you can’t go wrong with, and the combination certainly sports well for Miles College.
Picture
13.) Morehouse University when you think of Morehouse you think about all of the bold and remarkable men that have attend the prestigious university. And when Morehouse plays games, opponents think of how fresh these uniforms are.
Picture
12.) Winston Salem State University just can’t go wrong with the all red look. Winston has built a very respectable program over the years and they certainly do not lack in the uniform department either.
Picture
11.) Bowie State the Bulldogs can switch it up and be versatile with a plethora of options, this is easily one of the best looks regarding HBCU programs.
Picture
10.) Tuskegee University the Tigers down in Alabama have a look that any player would be happy to wear as they come in as our number 10 best look.
Picture
9.) North Carolina Central the Eagles can go with maroon, white, black, or grey and either way take the gridiron looking sharp and ready to ball.
Picture
8.) Alcorn State these still give off the old Air McNair day vibes as even with multiple options and alternates, the Braves still have one of the best classic looking getups.
Picture
7.) Bethune Cookman makes our top 10, as they are one of the teams on this list that has several different helmet and uniform combinations. The Wildcats down in Daytona Beach always take the field looking good ready for action.
Picture
6.) Southern the Jaguars powder blue uniforms are smooth yet simple, providing for not only one of the best get ups in HBCU football.
Picture
5.) Florida A&M sometimes simplicity is all that is needed and for the Florida A&M Rattlers that’s all that is needed for one of the best new looks in college football, as they are geared up with the new and clean Nike uniforms.
Picture
4.) Prairie View A&M the Panthers got new unis from Adidas and the team has responded very well and have took a liking to the many new and unique look it gives the Panthers.
Picture
3.) Grambling State the classic black and gold of the south with a hint of that Bayou flavor, the Tigers have many uniform combinations that they can pull off which gives them of the best overall looks in college football.
Picture
2.) Howard Cailyn Newton isn’t short of swag being the little brother of Cam Newton, but these Under Armor uniforms pack a lot of swag as the Bison of HU come in as the second on our list.
Picture
1.) North Carolina A&T the Hall of Famer Deion Sanders said it best “you look good, you feel good, you feel good, you play good” and the Aggies are very familiar with that, as they have been able to collect a lot of hardware the past few seasons. The defending Celebration Bowl champs got new Nike uniforms two seasons ago that was able to keep the classic navy blue and gold threads that Aggies have worn for quite some time. This season they debuted their new and stylish grey uniforms, which have been a relatively fresh new and clean look for the Aggies.
