UMES Breaks The Top 20 HBCUs List Just In Time For Founders Day

​What a time to be a hawk! Not only is today the 131st anniversary of the founding of the University of Maryland of Eastern Shore, but they ranked number 20 in the nation’s Top Historically Black College Universities [by U.S News] which is an all-time high for the University. “I am delighted at our recognition as one of the nation’s top HBCUs, as we celebrate the 131st anniversary of our founding on September 13th, 1886, we are proud of the rich history and legacy that we continue to build upon as we move From Excellence to Eminence.” said President Juliette B. Bell. In 2016, UMES earned its Doctoral University designation from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

Spelman College ranked #1 in the list. The Top 20 consists of Howard, Hampton, Morehouse, Xavier, Tuskegee, NCA&T, Calfin, Fisk, Clark Atlanta, Tougaloo, Delaware State, North Carolina Central, Jackson State, Morgan State, Jackson C. Smith and Alcorn State

​Undergraduates from Spring 2017 who have earned degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics had job opportunities from Cisco, Raytheon, and Orbital ATK. Aside from that the past three classes of grad students who earned a Doctorates in Physical Therapy have received a 100 percent passing rate on the licensure exam on the first try. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore offers 37 undergraduate majors, 15 master’s degrees and eight doctoral programs.
